Job Summary: The VA North Texas Health Care System, Dallas, Texas is currently recruiting for a Podiatrist (Section Chief-Ambulatory Care Service). The Section Chief will lead health care professionals to provide primary care to Veteran patients.

Major Duties:

  • The Section Chief is assigned to the Associate Chief of Staff, Ambulatory Care Service will be responsible for the overall day-to-day supervision of his/her assigned primary care providers. He/she will be required to travel between Community Based Outpatient Clinics under this section; as needed and will supervisor one or more CBOC's.The Podiatrist (PACT) is accountable for adhering to established policies and standards of care/ practice in evaluating, tracking, and following up on patient care. The Podiatrist collaborates with health care professionals to provide longitudinal case management of the PCP's entire PACT panel with independent care delivery for acute/same-day needs or when otherwise requested by the PCP.Duties/Responsibilities: Provide independent care delivery for chronic, acute/same-day medical needs. The type of care is served to the Veteran population, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population, namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc. A part of your responsibility is to write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. The major function of the position includes Health Risk Assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic disease management. A major focus is on preventive medicine with a focus on achieving positive patient outcomes, improving coordination of care, decreasing clinic waits or delays and appropriate use of resources Provide direct patient care, including, but not limited to, history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, and clinical reminder completion as applicable. Function as a leader in the PACT approach in the delivery of care, which emphasizes a team-based approach to healthcare. Oversee PACTs compliance to Message Manager, MyHealtheVet, and encounter completion. Proficient in Tele-Health to home visits (VA Video Connect), and Comprehensive Women's Health care. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Perform medication reconciliation. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Qualifications: Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice podiatry medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training. Podiatrists must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Primary Care leadership experience and excellent communication skills. Knowledge of regulations and preparation for accreditation surveys, i.e. Joint Commission, OIG, etc. References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable (at 13" to 16" to jaeger 1 to 4), far vision correctable ( in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other), hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, and clear speech.
