Major Duties:

  • The Geriatric and Extended Care Kerrville Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic (GEM) or Geri-PACT Medical Director's role is to lead interdisciplinary staff in providing high quality patient centered care to Veterans in the outpatient setting. The Kerrville GEM clinic provides both primary care and specialty care to geriatric patients. The medical director is responsible for the quality of care provided by the program, for the productivity of the program and for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to meet the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) mission. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Leadership responsibilities Management recruitment; updates on Functional Statements & Position Descriptions Staff Management Time/Leave Management Business Planning/Systems Redesign Clinical Management Coordination with ED and Hospital Medicine for transfers and admissions Responsibility for Safety and Environmental standards, etc. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Telework: Available on an Ad-hoc (as needed) basis Remote: This is not a remote position Work Schedule: TBD (Typically M-F, 0730-1600 CST) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Qualifications: Podiatrist Basic Requirements Citizenship: Candidates must be a United States citizen. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.) ~AND~ Language: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) ~AND~ Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Residency: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Additional Requirements (Section Chief or Line Manager): A section chief or line manager podiatrist must demonstrate the following: (1) Outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or a medical specialty; ~AND~ (2) Ability to guide the development and implementation of programs, within their respective domain. These programs would include, but are not limited to, medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, and quality and performance improvement.
