Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Naval Branch Heal Clinic Point Loma, San Diego, CA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Major Duties:

  • Treats bone, joint, muscle/tendon/ligament, skin, and nail disorders affecting the feet.
  • Diagnoses diseases and deformities of the foot.
  • Prescribe medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, surgery, or other procedures.
  • Review medical history and drug therapies.
  • Keep record of and order appropriate supplies.
  • Consult with Orthopedic surgeon to discuss need for prostheses or other surgical procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Requirements for GP-13 Podiatrist: Degree: Successful completion of a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Evaluation (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts and proof of program completion.) AND Licensure: Successful completion of the National Board of Pediatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APLME) and a current, active and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (Note: You must attach a copy of your license and proof of program completion.) AND Specialized Experience/Residency Training Required: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GP-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes diagnosing foot and ankle disorders and performing various surgical procedures on the feet and ankles and/or I have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Podiatry) and equivalent experience and training residency program equal to at least 1 years. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GP-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
