Group 1001 is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies on a mission to deliver outstanding value and operational performance by combining financial strength and stability with deep insurance expertise and a can-do culture. Group1001’s culture emphasizes the importance of collaboration, communication, core business focus, risk management, and striving for outcomes. This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.
Why This Role Matters:
We are looking for a motivated intern to join our highly skilled Platform Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to building and improving our multi-cloud DevSecOps platform, which supports AWS and Azure environments, as well as the tools that implement our SSDLC and operational processes.
Our platform leverages Terraform, Python, Agentic AI workflows, GitLab, Cloudsmith, Kubernetes, and more. Since the business and technical processes managed by the platform are best represented as directed acyclic graphs, this role also offers the chance to conceptualize and work with graph/network data structures. While you are not expected to be an expert in all technologies, prior coursework or experience in software or platform engineering will help you thrive.
The internship will run from May 18 to August 7, 2026, and will be a hybrid schedule out of our Zionsville office.
How You'll Contribute:
Write clean, maintainable code in one or more languages alongside a talented engineering team.
Participate in grooming and planning sessions to break down complex technical challenges into actionable tasks.
Collaborate with peers in a fast-paced, agile environment (Spotify Agile-inspired).
Engage with AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and innovation.
Contribute to solving a variety of platform engineering challenges across cloud environments.
What We’re Looking For:
Current undergraduate student (sophomore or junior) pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Availability to work full-time during the summer.
Strong interest in solving technical problems with structured, efficient code.
Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts.
Ability to work independently while actively participating in team discussions and ceremonies.
Eagerness to experiment, learn from failures, and iterate quickly.
Excellent communication skills and openness to giving and receiving feedback.
Benefits Highlights:
Employees who meet benefit eligibility guidelines and work 30 hours or more weekly, have the ability to enroll in Group 1001’s benefits package. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the Company’s comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plan options. Employees are also eligible for Basic and Supplemental Life Insurance, Short and Long-Term Disability. All employees (regardless of hours worked) have immediate access to the Company’s Employee Assistance Program and wellness programs—no enrollment is required. Employees may also participate in the Company’s 401K plan, with matching contributions by the Company.
Group 1001, and its affiliated companies, is strongly committed to providing a supportive work environment where employee differences are valued. Diversity is an essential ingredient in making Group 1001 a welcoming place to work and is fundamental in building a high-performance team. Diversity embodies all the differences that make us unique individuals. All employees share the responsibility for maintaining a workplace culture of dignity, respect, understanding and appreciation of individual and group differences.
