This position works out of our Altavista, VA location in the Abbott Nutrition division. The Plant Sanitation Manager provides guidance and direction of plant sanitation for manufacturing operations, warehouse and plant grounds. The purpose of the job is to implement food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance policies, procedures and training.
What You’ll Work On
Create, drive and implement holistic plant sanitation programs, policies and procedures for plant, warehouse and plant grounds. Assure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and all food safety policies and procedures.
Act as sanitation support in the process of assessing and mitigating safety risk associated with construction and major maintenance.
Collaborate/Coordinate with Facility Supervisor, Operations Leadership, Operations Associates and Site Sanitation Crew toachieve desired Environmental Monitoring performance and Pest Control performance. May be responsible for leading the sanitation crew on all shifts for the site.
Evaluate facility sanitary conditions, assessing risk based on food safety and public health principles, prioritizing corrective actions, and verifying sanitation activities and validation testing.
Evaluate monthly environmental samples for monitoring of pathogenic organisms in plant, trending the results and developing corrective actions.
Conform to master cleaning schedule and applicable cGMP guidelines, best practices and requirements.
Develop and implement all sanitation related training for sanitation and plant employees as needed.
Ensure all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper chemical storage, MSDS, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and procedures.
Maintain and write detailed clean up procedures and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures for all plant equipment, driving towards reduced water and air usage.
Responsible for managing the site’s integrated pest control program.
Manage the department budget, including cost savings initiatives related to sanitation programs and activities.
Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback.
Set goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring. Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or significant experience in plant quality/food safety/Sanitation.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Proven leadership capabilities ·
Project planning & execution experiences ·
Process control knowledge ·
Proven plant financial understanding ·
Experience with working on Continuous Improvement Projects ·
Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Sanitarian and Pesticide Application
Pathogen knowledge. ·
Knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation principles and Food Safety Preventive Controls (FSPC) ·
Understanding of the appropriate wet cleaning and dry cleaning methodology. ·
Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment

The base pay for this position is
$99,300.00 – $198,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
