Plant Protection Officer I - EMT

We are seeking a Plant Protection Officer I to join our Plant Protection Team at our Pueblo, Colorado facility. This is a cross-functional role responsible for maintaining the overall security, fire protection, and emergency medical readiness of the plant. The Plant Protection Officer I serves as a first-line responder to incidents and emergencies, protects people and assets, and supports fire and medical response operations while working closely with Plant Protection Officers II and III.

This position requires the ability to balance security enforcement, emergency response, fire protection, and medical duties equally, operating as a versatile professional in a dynamic industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Security Operations

  • Control and monitor personnel, vehicles, and materials entering and exiting the facility, including visitor processing and access authorization.
  • Monitor plant activity through patrols, access control systems, alarms, and surveillance equipment.
  • Enforce site security procedures, policies, and post orders to protect employees, contractors, visitors, and company assets.
  • Prepare clear, accurate verbal and written reports following security incidents, investigations, accidents, or emergencies.
  • Safeguard proprietary, personnel, and sensitive information in accordance with confidentiality requirements.

Emergency Response & Medical Services

  • Respond to medical, fire, security, and other plant emergencies using appropriate equipment and established response protocols.
  • Possess and maintain a Colorado Emergency Medical Technician – Basic certification and provide emergency medical care within scope of certification.
  • Administer medical aid and/or CPR as required (per state/county protocol) and transport patients to local emergency medical departments or intercept with advanced life support units.
  • Participate in emergency drills, training exercises, and ongoing readiness activities.

Fire Protection & Life Safety

  • Monitor and respond to fire and life-safety alarms.
  • Operate and direct the use of fire-fighting equipment during incidents.
  • Assist the fire inspector with inspection and maintenance of fire suppression systems and related equipment.
  • Support fire prevention efforts through inspections, housekeeping, and hazard identification.

General Duties

  • Operate and maintain assigned equipment including vehicles, two-way radios, computers, fire-fighting and medical equipment, telephones, and hand tools.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the fire station, gatehouses, security posts, and assigned work areas.
  • Assist Maintenance or other departments during incidents or special operations when required.
  • Perform additional Plant Protection duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of hire (current certification preferred).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in security, emergency response, fire protection, EMS, military, industrial safety, or a related field preferred.
  • Colorado EMT-B required; EMT-I or EMT-P preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential physical functions, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 100 pounds, and communicating over a public-address system.
  • Ability to safely operate fire-fighting equipment, emergency vehicles, and response tools.
  • Ability to work in challenging environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, elevated noise and vibration, extreme heat or cold, fire hazards, chemical exposure, elevated work areas, and environments requiring respiratory protection.

Compensation

  • $25.16-$28.85 per hour
