Airgas is looking for a plant operator for our Nitrous oxide facility.

To perform this job successfully, we are looking for the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements ideally sought below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability that help our team succeed.

  • Support Plant Operations: Safely operate equipment, including startup and shutdown, while monitoring gauges and indicators to maintain stable manufacturing processes.

  • Equipment Care & Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance and repairs, ranging from minor belt adjustments to major compressor overhauls, to ensure facility reliability.

  • Process Documentation: Diligently maintain operating logs and records to foster clear communication and safety across the team.

  • Materials Stewardship: Facilitate the loading and unloading of raw materials and finished products via bulk trucks, using specialized hoses and pumps.

  • Facility Support: Manage chemical replenishment in polishing towers and ensure residue removal to maintain high standards of facility cleanliness.

  • Precision Cylinder Filling: Execute the vacuuming, purging, and filling process for cylinders used in the electronics industry with a focus on accuracy.

  • Quality Excellence: Utilize detector tubes and GCs to ensure all products meet conformance standards, contributing to our commitment to excellence.

Physical Demands The physical demands here are essential to the role, with reasonable accommodations available. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and use hands to handle tools or reach with arms. Candidates should have the capability to regularly lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds with provided equipment. This role involves working near mechanical parts and in various weather conditions; specific vision (color, depth, and focus) and sensory awareness (hearing/smell) are necessary for safety and quality control.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and regularly risk exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED

  • Experience: At least two years of related experience and/or training.

  • Communication: * Ability to read/interpret safety rules, manuals, and technical drawings.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Mathematics: * Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

    Ability to work with fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, and percentages.

    Ability to interpret bar graphs.

  • Technical/Manual Skills: * Must be able to operate fabrication equipment (drill presses, saws, etc.).

  • Problem Solving: Ability to use "commonsense understanding" to follow instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables in standard situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Background: Specific experience in maintenance or mechanical fields.

  • Technical Literacy: Being "computer literate" is explicitly noted as a plus.

  • Advanced Interpretation: While reading manuals is required, the specific ability to interpret diagrams and drawings is highlighted as an additional skill.
