Job Summary: Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Plant Mechanic. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment. Duty Location: Redding, California .

Major Duties:

  • Maintains, repairs, and modifies mechanical equipment in hydroelectric power plants and pumping plants. Performs a wide range of mechanical, machinist, sheet metal, welding, pipefitting, crane operation, and rigging work associated with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of turbines, generators, motors, pumps, compressors, filters, ejectors, valves, piping systems, penstocks, intakes, radial gates, spillways, and outlet works. Performs finish, structural, and pipe welding, including finish grinding on turbine runners. Designs, fabricates, and modifies tools, jigs, and fixtures; manufactures replacement parts from stock materials; rebuilds equipment to like-new condition; and performs tool-and-die maker work. Operates a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery, including lathes, milling machines, boring bars, radial arm drill presses, forklifts, overhead bridge and gantry cranes, grinders, MIG, TIG, acetylene, and arc welding equipment, testing gauges, and machinist and hand tools. Adheres to established safety procedures and holds clearances in accordance with the Hazardous Energy Control Program (lockout/tagout).

Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 01/29/2026.
