What will you do? 

  • The Plant Controller is a strategic finance leader responsible for the financial performance, control environment, and decision support for a $500M manufacturing plant experiencing continuous growth.

  • This role partners closely with plant leadership to drive profitability, cost discipline, capital efficiency, and operational excellence while ensuring strong internal controls and compliance.

  • The Plant Controller acts as both a financial steward and business partner, translating complex financial data into actionable insights that support throughput, margin expansion, and scalable growth.

How will you do it? 

Financial Leadership & Business Partnering:

  • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Plant Manager and operations leadership team.

  • Drive financial strategy to support continuous growth, capacity expansion, and productivity initiatives.

  • Provide clear, actionable insights on cost drivers, margins, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption.

  • Lead fact-based decision making for pricing, sourcing, make-vs-buy, and capital allocation.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Forecasting:

  • Own the plant’s annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, and long-range plans.

  • Analyze variances vs. plan and prior periods; recommend corrective actions.

  • Develop and maintain robust cost models for products, processes, and new investments.

  • Support scenario modeling for volume growth, mix shifts, and inflationary pressures.

Cost Accounting & Operational Finance:

  • Oversee standard costing, BOM integrity, routing accuracy, and variance analysis.

  • Partner with operations to improve cost structure, scrap reduction, labor utilization, and economics.

  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation, reserves, and cycle count discipline.

Plant Performance & KPI Management:

  • Design and maintain financial and operational KPIs aligned to plant objectives.

  • Provide timely dashboards and performance reviews for plant leadership.

  • Link financial outcomes to operational drivers across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Capital Expenditures & Growth Initiatives:

  • Lead capital planning, ROI analysis, and post-investment reviews for growth and modernization projects.

  • Ensure disciplined project governance for major capex tied to capacity expansion or automation.

  • Partner with engineering and operations on financial justification and execution tracking.

Controls, Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.

  • Lead monthly close, balance sheet reviews, and management reporting for the plant.

  • Support internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of findings.

  • Strengthen control processes to scale effectively with growth.

What are we looking for?  

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.

  • 7+ years of progressive finance experience, including manufacturing or operations finance.

  • Proven experience supporting large-scale manufacturing operations.

  • Strong background in cost accounting, inventory management, and variance analysis.

  • Experience in growth environments (capacity expansion, new lines, acquisitions, or complexity increases).

  • Advanced financial modeling and forecasting skills.

  • Strong systems experience (SAP, reporting tools, advanced Excel).

  • ⁠Strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

  • Strong business acumen and operational curiosity.

  • Ability to influence cross-functional leaders without direct authority.

  • Clear, confident communication with senior leadership.

  • High integrity with a strong control mindset.

  • Comfortable in fast-paced, constantly evolving environments.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting large manufacturing plants or multi-plant operations.

  • Exposure to Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement environments.

  • Experience implementing or optimizing ERP or finance transformation initiatives.
