Silgan Containers is seeking a Plant Accountant to provide plant‑level manufacturing accounting and finance expertise at our Hoopeston, Illinois, manufacturing facility. This role focuses on cost accounting, inventory control, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and SOX internal controls within a structured manufacturing environment.
The Plant Accountant reports to the Plant Manager and partners closely with plant operations and corporate finance to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financials for manufacturing operations. Compensation for this IL-based position ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 per year and is based on experience, education, and skills.

What You’ll Do as a Plant Accountant
Assist with inventory accuracy, including quarterly physical inventories, audit cadence, and variance resolution
Manage monthly closing, plant financial statements, and standardized financial reporting in accordance with corporate timelines
Prepare budgeting, forecasting, and annual operating plan submissions
Maintain standard costs, cost accounting processes, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Manage compliance with SOX internal controls and maintain audit readiness
Participate in production meetings and conduct regular plant walkthroughs
Partner with plant management on manufacturing finance and cost management
Provide day‑to‑day oversight of the plant accounting clerk and plant planner
Collaborate with corporate finance on reporting accuracy and control compliance
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance,
3–5 years of manufacturing accounting or manufacturing finance experience
Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory controls, and month‑end close
Working knowledge of GAAP principles
Experience with SOX‑aligned or internal control environments
Detail‑oriented, organized, and process‑focused work style
Comfortable managing plant accounting duties with minimal supervision
Strong ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively
Prior people management experience preferred
JD Edwards or ERP system experience preferred
Work Schedule and Expectations
Standard plant schedule: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (30‑minute lunch) or 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (1‑hour lunch)
Flexibility required during the month-end closing, typically through 5:00 pm
Minimal travel up to 10% annually for accounting or leadership meetings
Regular on‑site interaction with plant operations and corporate partners
