Job Summary
The Planner, Rail Operations is responsible for supporting the day-to-day rail operations of both the Private fleet and non-fleet Private car movements. This individual will monitor daily railcar activity to ensure rail activity is moving as expected. He/She will work with customer care agents and rail carriers to identify and expedite delayed rail cars. Additionally, He/She will coordinate with rail car maintenance vendors and leasing agents to move empty and loaded rail cars to repair shops and lessor locations in the most efficient, cost-effective manner. This individual will be responsible for analyzing and entering rail rates into the company's TMS system and keeping the data updated. Review freight rail bills that do not match anticipated expense, make corrections, and approve payment process
The Planner, Rail Operations should be system savvy, possess strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy. This individual must be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential Duties

  • Directly responsible for monitoring the entire fleet of cars on a daily basis identifying cars that are off route, in excessive dwell, bad order status, derailments, and all other service exceptions.

  • Reroute cars to and from locations and storage as required to keep the business running while managing through potential supply disruptions/embargos.

  • Monitor outbound car order fulfillment for all plants and report to appropriate parties

  • Develop a strong knowledge of rail systems and technology and working relationship with Trans-core.

  • Maintain all private rail cars in the database having all fleet cars in the proper fleet and sub fleet fields. Enter all new cars into the system and remove any cars coming off lease.

  • Submit OT-57 rail fleet applications as requested and possess a working knowledge of Railinc

  • Handle all rail freight requests and routing inquiries in a timely manner, audit all freight exceptions from internal and 3rd party payment providers

  • Notify all parties of freight rate changes and impacts.

  • File necessary routing instructions, monitor cars to shop, and request estimates of repairs.

  • Audit daily rail freight invoices and provide allocations to Accounts Payable team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Support plant personnel in filing of rail freight claims


Qualifications Required

  • in Supply Chain preferred or equivalent experience Required

  • 2-3 years of Transportation/Planning/Logistics /Analytics/Operational Experience Required

  • This position is based in our Parsippany, NJ corporate headquarters which currently operates on a hybrid in-office schedule. Though employees are welcome to work in our office on Friday, this position must be performed in-office on Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely from the employee's home office on Friday.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS), Fleet Management Systems (FMS) and load tendering software, such as web-based CarrierPoint , Trans-core

  • Intermediate knowledge of the Transportation Industry (Private Fleets)

  • Intermediate knowledge of State and Federal Transportation Regulations

  • Working knowledge of advanced analytical tools ( Tableau, Alteryx, TMI, Excel)

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, PS, SAP.

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $68,000-$93,500
