The Opportunity
  
Our USGO Columbus Area team is seeking a multiskilled USGO Corrosion/Pipeline /M&R Technician in the Columbus, Ohio area to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities. We are seeking an individual that possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline and cathodic protection systems.

 
This individual must be a motivated individual, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem-solving skills, positive attitude, communication skills, and decision-making skills. 

 
What you’ll do
 

  • Conduct periodic resistivity and potential surveys on pipelines, compressor stations, and measurement and regulation facilities to determine corrosive areas and record performance of cathodic protection systems

  • Check rectifiers and anode structures and determine operating efficiency

  • Assist in analyzing troublesome cathodic protection areas and recommend solutions

  • Install interference bonds in cooperation with other companies

  • Assist in conducting current requirement tests for new ground bed installations

  • Maintain cathodic protection equipment

  • Conduct close interval surveys in small segments and oversee the CIS being performed by contractors

  • Detect and conduct the repair of shorted road casings

  • Check electrolysis bonds and conduct potential surveys on protected high-pressure lines

  • Atmospheric corrosion mitigation, surface preparation and coating application inspections

  • Internal corrosion related sampling activities (liquid sampling, coupon removal/installation, etc.)

  • Maintain RMU units installed on rectifiers

  • Participate in PHMSA and regulatory inspections

  • Assist and lead contractors during CP construction

  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic equipment

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct discrepancies

  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters

  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals, etc.) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use

  • Locate pipelines per the One Call center and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint, flags and permanent line markers.

  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP/Blue Worx, and create routes and enter data in PCS

  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments coordinating all work around facilities with landowners, contractors, and customers

  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation

  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repairs, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves and pipeline segments

  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and conduct leak surveys

  • Operate company truck and equipment

  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, leak repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects

  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain large and small diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment 

  • Other tasks as required include various duties at compressor and measurement and regulation stations

 

Minimum Qualifications
 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry

  • Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure

  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices

  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures

  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software

 
Preferred Qualifications

 

·         Experience reading, comprehending, and applying DOT codes and ANSI/AMSE standards

  • Knowledge of the installation of impressed current ground beds and rectifiers

  • 2-3 years of experience performing test point surveys with a field data logger (Messa Tablet, etc.)

  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators

  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents

  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls

  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems

  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators

  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment 

  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents

 
This position requires candidates to:
 

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record and obtain TC Energy DOT driver status

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing

  • Require on call rotation 7 days on, emergency response.

  • Obtain operator qualifications to perform various tasks

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home

  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions

  • Live within 30 miles / 45 min of the Columbus office location
