SUPERVISES: Pipe Foremen/Supervisors
Overview of position: The primary function of the Pipe Lead Foreman is to work with the department Manager and project team to give guidance to the Pipe Foremen for the project regarding all daily tasks and manning. This position will also carry all CAM responsibilities for the cost account assigned to them for the project.
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the implementation of all production schedules, monitoring and maintenance of schedules in conjunction with Pipe Foremen and Supervisors assigned to their project.
- Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of adequate stock levels
- Responsible for attending all project meetings and liaising between the project team and foremen to ensure project goals are met.
- Ensuring correct construction and inspection procedures are adhered to
- Responsible for sourcing and distributing of information to Foremen/Supervisors assigned to their project.
- Responsible for liaising with and directing outside contractors
- Accountable for monitoring resource levels and the distribution of these resources
- Assisting with the maintaining of safe working practices and good housekeeping in all areas and ensures Austal’s policies are being followed
- Ensure that all earned value and rework for their project is accounted for.
- Oversee all schedule maintenance for their assigned project.
- Liaise with department manager and foremen to resolve all issues with Project management.
- Liaise with production foremen to ensure all technical issues with surveying authorities and engineering are resolved.
- Ensure all personnel comply with Austal USA’s Care and Protection procedure.
- Recommend and implement training to enhance skill and productivity of employees.
- Accountable for ensuring all Supervisors under their control are complying with the Leadership Creed.
- Provide constant feedback to Foremen/Supervisors regarding: Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale
- Ensures all time keeping responsibilities are processed and allocated daily by 10am.
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are understood and followed.
- Provides motivation, maintains morale and minimizes confrontation
- Review performance appraisals in conjunction with Foremen/Supervisors
- Maintain succession plan. Identify Key personnel and implement training programs
- All other tasks as assigned by department manager.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Displays good working knowledge of planning and monitoring
- Shipbuilding experience required
- A minimum of five (5) years in a supervision role desired
- Experienced as an Austal Production Foreman OR 5-10 years of experience from a comparable shipyard in mid management.
- Familiarity with US Navy contracts and oversight a plus
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent people management skills
- Sound knowledge of Austal’s scheduling format and reports including; manning requirements, late starting tasks, late finishing tasks, 60 day look ahead and physical percent complete.
- Sound computer skills in Excel, Word and Outlook.

DISCRETION EXERCISED: Discretionary authority to enforce accountability and correct and discipline.
LIAISES WITH: Assigned Project team, other department Managers/Foremen and Supervisors, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Engineering departments, some surveyors, contractors, and vendors.

- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
