The marine pilot should be fit for duty, which includes not being under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a substance that may impair ability,

2.The marine pilot should contribute to a good working environment with the master and bridge team members while providing pilotage services,

3.The marine pilot should be aware of the possible differences in culture and languages on board vessels,

4.The marine pilot should contribute to a good working environment with other port services involved in the pilotage passage,

5.The marine pilot is responsible for his behaviour while providing pilotage,

6.The marine pilot should be fully aware of all factors that may affect the pilotage passage. There are many factors including, but not limited to:

§Traffic density,

§Navigational warning,

§Meteorological and hydrological information.

7.The marine pilot should be reasonably up to date with analyses from the ‘reporting system’, (proactive; non-conformities; accidents and risk events).

This includes but is not restricted to:

  • Corrective actions,
  • Lessons learned through the maritime pilot organization.

The marine pilot shall provide the necessary required training for junior pilots to enable them to be eligible for assessment by PMA.

Responsibilities:

To keep pilotage training and training summary records set by Svitzer and approved by the PMA,

To adhere to the rules and regulations of Svitzer and the authorities,
