Job Summary: Serve as a Primary Care Section Chief for Northern Colorado facility. You will be expected to oversee day-to-day operations of clinical activities, staff and clinical decisions.

  • Start, continue, or finish your career here | Cheyenne VA Health Care System (youtube.com) Provider is board certified and/or eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice who provides Primary Care services at the Cheyenne facility or the Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic (Loveland) on a full-time basis, 1.0 FTEE. Will be expected to provide supervisory, administrative and clinical support to Mobile, Home-Based Primary Care, and the Cheyenne facility and be accountable for off tour emergencies and call-ins. Will oversee the operations of the day-to-day clinical activities, staffing and clinical decisions. Will be accountable and in coordination with the Associate Chief of Staff, Cheyenne VAMC. Medical Director will be expected to document into CPRS in a timely manner. Medical Director will participate in Process Improvement / Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned. Functions Clinical: Primary Care: 50% Administrative: 50%Designs the Mobile, Home-Based Primary Care, and the Cheyenne facility schedules, work with the Physicians in both Northern Colorado and Cheyenne to provide timely access to care, report to Associate Chief of Staff alterations to the clinic expected workload, follow PACT principals and coordinate the care to veterans with physicians at both Northern Colorado and Cheyenne through collaboration with other service line chiefs as applicable. Report on quality measures to Associate Chief of Staff, supervise Physicians at both Northern Colorado and Cheyenne and ensure quality medical care of the outpatient veteran patient(s). Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board certification or Board eligible and previous Primary Care experience. Physical Requirements:The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. This position involves considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and turning. It requires repositioning patients and assisting with transferring patients to wheelchairs/stretchers. Mechanical devices when available are required to be used for heavy or difficult to lift patients. The work may involve pushing or lifting weight in excess of 50 pounds and going up and down flights of stairs. The position requires visual and auditory acuity at a level to provide safe and effective nursing care. The positions requires the nurse to work for periods of time with arms above shoulder level or with the neck in a fully flexed or extended position and the ability to physically control or protect him/herself from physically abusive patients.
