Summary

The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our General Surgery practice and surgical care team.

The PA/NP will work under specific accreditation standards in collaboration with an attending physician to develop and implement direct care for General Surgery patients.  This position will be primarily clinic-based with regularly scheduled shifts in the OR at both the Main Campus Hospital and UVMMC’s Fanny Allen Campus.

This is a 1.0 FTE exempt position that will be scheduled to work five 8-hr shifts per week: 8am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday.  No call or weekends required.  Occasional adjustments to this schedule may be made to accommodate earlier starts based on OR support or patient care needs.

Experience

  • 2+ years full-time clinical PA/NP experience preferred.

  • Ideal candidates will have 2+ years of OR experience with priority being given to applicants with Surgical First Assist and robotic surgery experience.

  • New PA/NP graduates with substantial prior direct patient care and/or OR experience who demonstrate a dedicated interest in a surgical specialty may be considered.

Education, Licensure, and Certifications

  • Master’s degree required.

  • Current (or eligible) certification to practice as an APRN from the VT State Board of Nursing or as a PA from the VT State Board of Medical Practice.

  • NP Candidates: Active RNFA certification desired, or willingness/ability to obtain within one year of hire.

  • Successful completion of an APRN or PA educational program recognized by the State of Vermont:

    • PA: Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program (prior to January 2001 – Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
    • NP: Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.
