Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a PHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number NGT600100 and is part of the TN 118th WING National Guard. This vacancy is not eligible for membership to a labor organization.

Major Duties:

• As an PHYSICIAN (AEROSPACE MEDICINE), GP-0602-14, you will serve as the locally recognized authority for administration of comprehensive clinical medical and physical assessments, and preventative medical services to assigned ANG personnel. Work independently and exercises sound judgment in accordance with the methods and practices of the medical profession and established medical/administrative policies affecting the quality and success of key programs essential to ANG readiness. Coordinate with inter-disciplinary teams to gather facts and uses effective analytical and evaluative methods to prepare complex healthcare recommendations. Prepare comprehensive narrative summaries by reviewing all comprehensive medical records/referrals; ensuring accuracy, conciseness, and appropriateness before forwarding for review by the National Guard Bureau (NGB) and the Physical Evaluation Board or appropriate Waiver Authority. Analyze and identify trends in medical assessments through review, comparison, and interpretation against complex medical standards, policies, and laws. Validate appropriateness of and adherence to medical care plans, ensuring implementation and compliance through mastery of and skill in applying sound medical judgment for pre- and post-deployment health, human immunodeficiency virus (can be designated HIV provider), automated neuropsychological, and psychological health assessments; and Conduct records review and face to face meetings relating to the Exceptional Family Member Program. Provide Aerospace Medicine support. Actively participates in strategic planning to improve organizational direction as a member of the ANG medical unit leadership. Analyze, evaluate, monitor, and report on Individual Medical Readiness for ANG Wing, tenants, and geographically separated unit personnel. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Degree: Doctor of Medicine in a Primary Care Specialty (Aerospace Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine) or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States For GS-14 -- 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or(external link) American Osteopathic Association (AOA). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link) (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. For GS-14 -- 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.
