Job Description:

Job Summary:

Strategizes and creates photography for LSU, the LSU President, and the LSU System campuses that promotes and publicizes LSU in a positive manner. Works as part of the creative team at Marketing & Communications to provide photos for use in the media, print publications, the web, social media, and other channels. Supports the office's Information Technology plan for all Apple computer systems and peripheral devices. Supports and strategizes the archiving and cataloging of all photography for LSU Division of Marketing & Communications.

Job Responsibilities:

25%: Supports the MarComm Photography Department. Creates photographs for both print and web use. Photographs can be for news stories or features, portraits or candids, assigned or self-assigned. Creates photographs that showcase the beauty of the campus. Documents campus events. Able to work under tight deadlines and heavy workload. Creates portraits and maintains database of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others. Expert at image editing software such as Photoshop and Lightroom, as well as Digital Asset Management programs such as Bridge and Portfolio.

25%: Works with the creative team to supply photos for with social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), including the Photography Department's own Instagram feed, ViewLSU. Attends meetings as part of the creative team and also meets with other departments. Assesses the purpose, audience, message, distribution, and provides strategic direction to the creative team in terms of photography. Ensures that photographs are consistent with LSU branding and public relations initiatives and marketing communications strategies.

25%: Supports MarComm staff with basic IT needs. This includes: serving as TSP(technical support person) for MarComm office when head photographer is out, providing software as well as hardware support, and running back up programs on servers. Has Knowledge of: the use and support of Retrospect Server used on the backup server; the use and support of Extensis Portfolio server used on the digital asset management server; the Filemaker Pro server; and the Macintosh OSX server. Has knowledge of: photographic equipment and current trends in photography; skills in photographic image-editing and archiving software; and digital color-management techniques, equipment, and software. This extends both to print and web pieces created by MarComm, as well as to photographic prints made for exhibition and display.

20%: Provides Photography for the LSU System Office as well as the Office of the President. Photographs meetings for the Board of Supervisors. Makes portraits of the President of LSU, and creates photographs to be used in System publication, websites, social media, etc. Essential personnel responsibilities include photographing the campus in the event of damage around campus for documenting emergency situations and volunteer efforts during or after hurricanes, snow, and other extreme weather. These photographs are also used for insurance purposes.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree

2 years' experience as a photographer, whether for an individual employer or as a freelancer, or relevant student employment experience.

LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree (BFA with concentration in Photography), 3+ years' experience as a photographer, particularly for a university or other large organization, knowledge of and experience in information technology implementation.

Competencies:

Beginner: Public Relations practices

Proficient: Apple Computer Software and Systems; Computer Support Practices; Knowledge of social media, primarily Instagram; Adobe ACR, Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom, Photoshelter

Advanced: Camera-Equipment Operations; Photography/Lighting/Studio Technical Skills

Additional Requirements:

Emergency Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.

Additional Information:

Ability to work extended hours, nights and weekends-including overnight-in the event of a crisis. May be required to work after hours to meet deadlines or to manage time-sensitive issues.
