Work schedule: This course is taught in 8- and 12-week sessions. The 8-week sessions meet on Monday and Thursday, and the 12-week sessions meet on Thursdays. Both sessions meet from 5:30pm to 8:30pm Work time outside of the schedule, before and after the sessions, will be required for clinical coordination and grading classwork.

While upholding the mission and values of Nebraska Methodist College, the Adjunct Instructor for Professional Development (PD) serves as the assistant lab instructor for the Phlebotomy program. This role is responsible for managing the online learning environment, including monitoring assignment and exam completion, entering grades for lab activities, and tracking student clinical requirements. This role will also support in-person lab sessions through demonstrations and hands-on guidance, and assist with student competency assessments, including live draw check-offs and the practical final.

Phlebotomy Instructor-Specific Job Requirements:

-An ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist or medical laboratory technician preferred. 
-Current or willing to obtain Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), required within 6 months of hire.
-Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Promotes a positive learning environment within the classroom, lab and clinical setting and encourage maximum student participation.

Establishes positive rapport with students and employees.

Utilizes and follows the curriculum and resources provided.

Able to teach evening and weekends, daytime schedules may also be available.

Responsible for the maintenance of equipment to ensure in proper working condition.

Records and forwards attendance, testing, and evaluation materials to the appropriate contacts within the Division of Professional Development.

Ensure classroom, lab spaces and supplies are orderly.

Be willing to train and teach in all educational roles within the department as needed such as Nursing Assistant Instructor, Medication Aide Instructor, Nursing Assistant State Tester, and RN Refresher Instructor.

Answer phones, triage calls and field questions as needed.

Participate in team meetings.

Copy and scan program materials.

Assist with skills sign off and evaluations to ensure students are competent in all areas required.

Perform other related duties as assigned by Director of Professional Development.

Education

  • Completion of terminal degree deemed appropriate per programmatic needs in the assigned discipline from a regionally accredited institution required, with a minimum of 18 semester hours in content-specific related field; master’s and/or doctoral degree in related field preferred.


Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in area relevant to program assignment required; one or more years of experience in teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred.


License/Certifications

  • Where appropriate, Nebraska licensure and national certifications are required of faculty employed at Nebraska Methodist College.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to provide academic instruction, read, analyze, interpret and grade academic assignments in a higher educational environment.
