Who we are looking for:

Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation is seeking a Philanthropy Intern that is passionate about nonprofit impact, donor engagement, and using innovative tools to advance a meaningful mission. The Philanthropy Intern will support strategic communication, donor engagement, and operational initiatives that directly support our mission to conquer cancer worldwide.

This immersive internship offers hands on experience with Individual Philanthropy.

Internship activities include:

  • Strategic Content and AI Utilization - Use Gemini to generate short, compelling content pieces “gems” suitable for donor communications, ensuring brand adherence and timeliness of messaging 
  • Draft Travel Plans – Use Gemini to research and prepare sample itineraries for key target areas where Conquer Cancer relationship managers will meet with major and planned donors. Plans should include local research such as restaurants suitable for business meals and detailed logistics including parking availability, traffic patterns, and efficiency recommendations.  Intern will also help review data pulled from Stratus Live to prioritize travel strategies and prospects. 
  • Content Strategy and Calendar Creation – Spearhead the development of a monthly donor communication content calendar designed for cultivation, stewardship, and engagement. Offer specific messages broken down by channel and audience segment. 
  • Data Analysis and Follow Up Communications – Conduct an analysis of responses gathered from the planned giving survey, identify key trends, common motivations, and distinct segments among responders. Develop recommendations for targeted follow-up communications. Prepare a clear, concise report summarizing the analysis and presenting the proposed strategy to the team. 

Required qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs 
  • Solid organizational and time management skills and attention to detail  
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism  
  • Willingness to enhance skills  
  • Initiative and ability to take ownership of projects and proactively seek information or solutions 
  • Basic data analytics proficiency for manipulation, sorting, and reporting 
  • Willingness and aptitude to quickly learn and utilize new generative AI tools effectively 

Duration: 10 weeks during the summer – June 8, 2026 to August 14, 2026. This internship is 37.5 hours per week.  

Compensation: This summer internship position is paid at a rate of $20/hour for actual hours worked. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy.

Location: This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite the majority of the time with some offsite work flexibility. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
