Job Summary: This position functions in the Pharmacy Service Clinical Section specifically related to Administration duties. The clinical pharmacy technician is a certified pharmacy technician with advanced skills who will provide administrative, clerical, and clinical support to the administration office staff and Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP). Responsibilities will also include full range of technical support functions related to Pharmacy clinics.

  • VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The duties of the Pharmacy Technician (Outpatient/Inpatient) include: Pull data via the electronic health record (EHR) on all new patients who are new to the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) and add to excel sheet to complete medication history. Interview patients (families/caregivers as appropriate), to develop an accurate list of medications, strengths, and dosages the patient has been taking. Review Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV) to see if patient has been receiving medications from another VA. Document adverse reactions and allergies that the patient reports. Review any patient compliance issues based on the interview and refill history. Document the compiled list in the electronic health record. Review all encounters daily and notify CPP for completion. Review performance improvement dashboards which include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, etc. and report to the Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor. Monitor for all non-formulary medication documentation to ensure to follow the National standard for timely turnaround. Review all ambulatory care clinics with the appropriate CPP and the Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor to update and restructure as as necessary. Participates in quality assurance, process improvement activities, and performance monitors. Coordinate timely completion of FPPEs & OPPEs. Review and coordinate completion of Labor Mapping. Timely submission of LEAF requests for review and approval. In coordination with CPP Supervisors, update clinic grids and make any necessary modifications. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Qualifications: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Education or Experience: None required for the grade level. Certification: For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (1) Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). OR (2) National Health career Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations for GS-08 In addition to the basic requirements above, to qualify for the GS-08 you must possess at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07 and demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, methodology and policies in a specialized area or section of pharmacy (such as sterile compounding, controlled substances, automation, clinical pharmacy, contact center, etc.). (b) Skill in training and orienting new and existing pharmacy facility employees and students on proper policies and procedures. (c) Ability to evaluate, analyze and coordinate workflow and work activities within a specialized area or section of the pharmacy. Physical Requirements: The work involves regular and recurring physical exertion including walking, bending, prolonged standing, stooping, lifting and carrying packages weighing up to 40 pounds. Dexterity is required for the operation of Pharmacy equipment.
