The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, PRN supports a 24-hour pharmacy at Tradition Hospital, a 190-bed facility with high patient volume and strong service lines including labor and delivery and stroke care. This role works across multiple shift-based workflows, contributing to sterile compounding in the IV room, medication preparation and delivery to patient care areas, and refilling automated dispensing cabinets. Additional responsibilities include batching medications, handling missing medication requests, answering phones, and tubing medications to nursing units. This position offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented inpatient environment.

A caregiver in this position will work PRN hours.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.  
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training.  
  • Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED  
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP).

  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)  AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program  
  • Six months of hospital experience 
  • Prior inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

•     Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
