The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient PRN supports daily pharmacy operations within a collaborative inpatient pharmacy team that includes a Buyer responsible for medication purchasing, a Lead Pharmaceutical Technician overseeing daily workflows, an Automation Technician managing inventory automation systems and approximately 30 pharmacy technicians supporting hospital-wide service lines. This role assists with medication preparation, unit-dose packaging, carousel utilization and timely delivery to patient care areas while also supporting inventory management, expiration monitoring and technology implementations. This position offers the opportunity to work at a world-class academic medical center supporting complex, high-acuity patient care with exposure to advanced inpatient pharmacy operations, automation and decentralized services. The environment emphasizes teamwork alongside pharmacists, nurses, physicians and interdisciplinary care teams with a strong focus on training, professional development and career advancement. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and the ability to support continuous process improvement.

 
This is a PRN position. A caregiver in this role will work various shifts between 6:30am and 10:00pm.   

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

 
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED  
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician  
  • Ability to communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner 
  • Demonstration of emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships  
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds  
  • Basic computer skills  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program  
  • Six months of hospital experience  
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). CPhT through the PTCB is required within 18 months of hire  
  • Prior pharmacy experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
