The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient, PRN supports a high-volume pharmacy at Main Campus (H building), serving a wide range of service lines including general inpatient, oncology, sterile products, operating room, and pediatrics. This role involves rotating through multiple pharmacy areas while performing daily responsibilities such as medication delivery across the hospital, carousel operations, and triaging requests (including phone and MAR message management). The position is fast-paced and highly active, with significant collaboration across departments, and offers opportunities for cross-training and advancement into specialized areas such as IV, ambulatory, specialty pharmacy, or homecare based on competency and department needs.

A caregiver in this position works variable hours between 6:45am to 3:15pm or 2:00pm to 10:30pm (3 weeks of days and one week of 2nd or straight seconds). Further requirements include every third weekend.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the Registered Pharmacist.  
  • Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.  
  • Fill medications carts daily.  
  • Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy department.  
  • Repackage bulk medications.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED.  

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).

  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)  AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program  
  • Six months of hospital experience 
  • Prior inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
