The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient Pediatrics supports overnight pharmacy operations at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus within a high-volume, high-acuity pediatric inpatient environment. Located in the H building pharmacy, this role is responsible for medication delivery and restocking, Pyxis support, carousel and medication distribution workflows, and triage responsibilities including phone and MAR message management. Technicians also assist pharmacists with medication preparation while maintaining medication safety, accuracy, and organization throughout the shift. This role involves extensive movement throughout inpatient areas and offers future opportunities for cross-training into other pharmacy specialties based on competency and department needs.

A caregiver in this role will work variable hours between 6:45am and 3:15pm or 2:00pm and 10:30pm. 3 weeks of days and one week of 2nd or straight seconds. Every 3rd weekend will be required.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma/GED   

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).

  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)  AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:    

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Six months of hospital experience   

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

•     Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
