The Pharmacy Technician works in a fast-paced inpatient pharmacy located on the second floor of Building C, between the OR and ICU, supporting a 256+ bed hospital. In this role, the caregiver collaborates closely with pharmacists while maintaining a level of autonomy in daily tasks. Responsibilities include medication picking and distribution, receiving and handling controlled substances, triaging requests, answering phones, managing re-dispenses, and supporting general workflow needs such as door coverage. This position plays a key role in ensuring timely and accurate medication support in a busy hospital environment.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work 3 shifts per week and 1 weekend per month and 1 major holiday per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds  
  • Basic computer skills  

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Florida Board of Pharmacy (FBOP).

  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)  AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Florida Board of Pharmacy

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program  
  • Six months of hospital experience  
  • Prior inpatient experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:
