Scope of Position

Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, the Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for packaging, preparation, and distribution of medications, inventory control, customer service and maintaining pharmacy records. The Technician must participate in continual training opportunities provided by the department to develop ongoing skills in other areas of the pharmacy. The Technician must comply with all rules and regulations of the hospital and pharmacy department.  If registered as a pharmacy technician trainee with the OH Board of Pharmacy, the Technician must complete OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) employer-based training program. This position must also complete PTCB or NHA certification within 9 months of the hire date and update OH Board of Pharmacy registration status to Certified Registered once requirements are met, unless such certification and registration status are in place upon hire. All technicians must maintain a current PTCB or NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Registered Technician status throughout employment to work as a pharmacy technician at OSUWMC Department of Pharmacy. 

Position Summary

This position will work within our specialty pharmacy to fill and process prescriptions. Duties include but are not limited to selecting, filling and labeling correct drug product according to prescriptions, servicing patients at our drive-up window, preparing prescriptions for shipment including creating shipping labels and placing products in correct packaging, basic inventory-related tasks, taking phone calls from and making calls to patients, and stocking supplies. This position requires at least 1 year experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or specialty setting. National certification is preferred and is required after 9 months of employment.

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician

  • 0 years of relevant experience required

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred
