Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator collaborates closely with pharmacy, nursing, and other medical personnel to provide ensure that medication and other supplies are available when and where needed. This position ensures that drug purchasing activities results in safe, effective, and cost-conscious use of medical and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Purchasing Coordinator has coordination, leadership, and stocking duties in the pharmacy department and must demonstrate excellent interdisciplinary communication and leadership skills. Serves as a role model and facilitates a professional customer-focused approach.
Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Performs all duties under the supervision of a pharmacist licensed in the State of Kansas. Works with pharmacy administration to comply with state and federal laws as well as other regulations.
- Participates in the orientation, education, and coordination of training for pharmacy employees, residents, students, and staff.
- Coordinates medication ordering in a manner that maximizes availability, minimizes wastage and reduces stock outages.
- Coordinates the management, communication, and proper record keeping of all medication recalls.
- Responsible for timely, accurate, and organized record keeping of all drug and medication supplies purchased including controlled substance purchases.
- Monitor for current or potential medication shortages and implement actions to mitigate in collaboration with Pharmacy leadership.
- Coordinates the filing, billing, and maintenance of interdepartmental accounts for order from the Pharmacy to hospital owned clinics.
- Provide back-up staffing in purchasing area when needed due to staff vacancy or workload.
- Coordinate the maintenance of off-site record storage.
- Prepare medication invoices for authorization for payment signature
- Assesses and maintains organization of medication inventory to comply with The Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations.
- Uses a courteous and professional customer-focused approach while interacting directly or on the telephone with customers.
- Directs customers with potential problems to the pharmacist, supervisor or administrator as appropriate.
- Participates in organizational and departmental performance improvement efforts and facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives.
- Maintains a plan for personal development and completion of competency validation records. Participates in goal setting, ongoing development, and goals of team.
- If applicable, participation in the quality management program is expected with the goal of improving services by monitoring processes, analyzing data, implementing interventions to improve and evaluating the effectiveness of those interventions.
- Responsibilities may include working to establish and maintain long and short term goals for the Quality Management Program; monitoring and documenting Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) for progress in meeting QI goals; and providing guidance and education to staff on Quality Management priorities and projects.
- If applicable, as part of the program, the staff will uphold the quality of the Patient Management Program to include the development and reassessment of the program.
- Other activities as defined by the supervisor.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and ExperiencePreferred Education and Experience- Bachelors Degree
- 2 or more years experience as a pharmacy technician in a large hospital setting that offers comprehensive pharmacy services
- Experience in pharmacy purchasing
Required Licensure and Certification- Pharmacy Technician Registration - State Board of Pharmacy
- Any certifications required to maintain active technician registration with Kansas or Missouri Board of Pharmacy
