Pharmacy Buyer
General Description:
Under general supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor/Manager, performs the duties associated with the day-to-day procurement of pharmaceuticals and related supplies and maintenance of associated inventories.

Establishes and maintains appropriate inventory levels of drugs and supplies
Checks inventory levels and other inventory control monitors and subsequently places orders for pharmaceuticals and related supplies from designated pharmacy vendors
Monitors usage trends and adjusts vendor contracts as necessary
Makes decisions in purchasing while staying within budget requirements and achieving maximum inventory turnover rate
Resolves problems associated with on-going, fluctuating demand/supply issues
Coordinates special orders or emergency orders
Follows-up and expedites as necessary to maintain delivery dates/schedules
Maintains wholesale drug PC-based databases in an up-to-date state
Resolves problems with vendors as necessary
Responsible for keying and/or processing of orders
Maintains invoicing for drug and supply accounts
Ensures compliance with established ordering practices and with all applicable state and federal guidelines
Operates and performs routine maintenance on packaging/labeling equipment
Maintains relationships with equipment and supply vendors and, as needed, arranges for service and repairs
Serves as liaison between software providers and IS Department for problem resolution
Evaluates marketed drug products to identify suitably packaged products, using available resources
Makes recommendations on vendor changes when necessary
Provides training and support to pharmacy staff regarding inventory management system, equipment operation and quality control procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area preferred.
Experience: 0 - 3 years of experience required. Experience in procurement/inventory supply or pharmacy technician experience preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy when eligible.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of materials management practices involved with purchasing, distribution and storage.
Knowledge of applicant state and federal laws and regulations.
Basic knowledge of Automated Dispensing Unit technology and reporting.
Knowledge of organization policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively prioritize needs and effectively manage resources.
Skill in performing tasks requiring discretion and judgment.
Knowledge of computer applications such as spreadsheets and word processing.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Ability to work effectively with internal staff and suppliers.
