Job Summary: This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Center for Medicare (CM), Hospital & Ambulatory Policy Group (HAPG), Division of Outpatient Care (DOC). As a Pharmacist, GS-0660-14, you will provide authoritative clinical pharmacy expertise for CMS-administered programs, including the Outpatient Prospective Payment System.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a technical authority and provides assistance to CMS staff and leadership at the regional or consortium level on regulations, policies, procedures, and other guidelines for the administration of CMS program benefits and payments.
  • Independently manages highly complex projects, making contributions that have significant impact on major CMS policies, programs, and milestones.
  • Provides professional pharmacy consultation, negotiation, and advice on a wide range of DOC-related program issues or policies to other CMS and government components.
  • Utilizes clinical and technical expertise to resolve beneficiary complaints or inquiries.
  • Leads national studies, reviews, evaluations, and/or projects that directly affect Medicare payments for drugs and biologicals across the country and translates the results of these efforts into actionable recommendations.

In order to qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to: Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects; Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations; Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program; Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens; Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications; Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or Maintaining all medication records required by law. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
