Job Summary: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoW Workforce. About the Position: Coordinates and/or provides clinical Pharmacy services that involve complex problems of a specialized nature. Serves as a liaison between the Pharmacy, Medical Staff, Department of Nursing, and patients for pharmaceutical matters and as an expert on pharmaceuticals, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapeutics

Major Duties:

  • Analyze selected medication for accuracy, incompatibilities, contraindications, and appropriate doses.
  • Develop individual dosing regimens based upon pharmacokinetics of drugs employed, disease states and medication history of the patient.
  • Assist medical staff in designing, coordinating and accomplishing an effective medication utilization evaluation (MUE) program to promote and sustain optimal therapeutic effectiveness and reduce waste.
  • Support and provide routine and complex drug information to patients, physicians, and other staff through literature analysis and research.
  • Provide drug education to patients on correct use of medications, potential side effects and unique medication packaging through verbal and written means.
  • Perform tasks related to clinical service, e.g., preparing discharge medications, bedside medication, medication labeling, and adjusting specific intravenous drug preparations.
  • When required, perform medication distribution functions to include filling, checking, counseling, and dispensing of outpatient prescriptions, preparation of intravenous admixture and filling, checking and dispensing of unit dose medications.

Basic Requirement for Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: developing individualized medication regimens ensuring proper pharmaceutical doses are maintained; coordinating clinical Pharmacy services that includes complex problems of a highly specialized nature; and communicating with patients to counsel them regarding their prescribed medication. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
