Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Pharmacy at Army Health Clinic Ireland, in Fort Knox, KY. Serves as a staff pharmacist in a fast-paced, high-production outpatient pharmacy setting catering to active-duty clients and their families as well as retirees. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 0800-1630. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Major Duties:

  • Provide authoritative instructions on pharmaceuticals, advice and assistance to prescribing and dispensing officials on effectiveness, suitability, hazards, and other aspects of their use.
  • Look for indications of misuse or abuse of pharmaceuticals and recommends corrective action.
  • Provide pharmacy input to quality improvement reviews and similar processes.
  • Conduct training of professional, non-professional, and prescribing staff on developments in drug therapy, rational therapeutics.
  • Advise on effectiveness and efficiency of various regimens and alternatives, and cost-effective prescribing.
  • Conduct patient education concerning the medication, its administration, signs of reaction, and related matters.
  • Oversee outpatient pharmacy functions for the full range of pharmaceuticals provided in the medical treatment facility (MTF), to include controlled, investigational, highly potent, and other drugs requiring special handling.
  • Participate with physicians in determining course of treatment for unusually complex or difficult cases.
  • Report/document medication errors and/or unusual occurrences.
  • Advise the medical and nursing staff, patients and family members concerning such matters as the clinical difference between compounds, proper dosages, general administration of drugs and medicines.

Basic Requirement for Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Qualification: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Exemption: You are exempt from the requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
