About the Role:

Job Summary

The personal trainer will assess the client's baseline fitness level. This may include range of motion, postural and flexibility assessments, movement analysis, muscular strength and endurance, cardiorespiratory fitness, and body composition. The personal trainer will develop an individualized fitness plan geared toward weight loss and prevention of muscle wasting. The clients progress towards goals will be assessed at each visit with identification of any barriers and a new plan will be established in collaboration with the client and family if a minor. The personal trainer will teach the client proper exercise techniques and safety, as well as basic exercise physiology. The personal trainer will guide and motivate the client at each visit to assist them with meeting their goals as they progress through their weight loss journey and weight maintenance phase. The personal trainer will document in the plan of care at each visit to reflect the clients progress towards healthy lifestyle changes. The personal trainer may also provide group exercise instruction. 

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications: Certified Personal Trainer or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with professional BLS .

  • Educational Requirements: High School Diploma

  • Minimum Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in personal training

Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and electronic medical record (EMR) navigation.

  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members, physicians, clients and families.

  • Ability to anticipate the physical and emotional needs of patients of size in a sensitive manner. 

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provides cost effective and high quality care to patients served. These services may include education, exercise conditioning, injury screening, and on-site treatment and care of acute injuries. Provides patient care consistent with the medical findings, physician orders, and established plan of care. Follows departmental policy and procedure preserving patient confidentiality, privacy and dignity. Completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner. Provides personal trainer coverage in clinic and group exercise classes as needed. The personal trainer works independently in their setting with the patient and family and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team. Documents treatment procedures following departmental policies and procedures and in compliance with third party guidelines. The personal trainer works closely with dietitians, behavioral health, physicians, and staff in the multidisciplinary team to support and encourage patients as they seek healthier lifestyles in the treatment of morbid obesity. 

  • Contributes to the effective operation of the department by consistently meeting or exceeding productivity by demonstrating good time management and organizational skills.

  • Communicates effectively and demonstrates good customer service and interpersonal skills. Consistently initiates positive and professional communication with medical and department staff and contacts as evidence by surveys and observations. Demonstrates flexibility by pro-actively resolving conflicts, scheduling problems, and completing assignments in a professional manner. Exhibits effective team work and interdisciplinary team-building skills as evidenced by manager observation
