Personal care R&D Lab/Pilot Technician

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

  • Assist with Lab & Pilot Plant activities

Support the formulation, processing, and packaging workstream R&D team. This will include relevant materials and equipment preparation and operation in order to successfully conduct lab- and pilot-scale trials according to proposed or established standard procedures (SOP). 

  • Assist with Factory trial activities

Support as needed the processing and packaging workstream R&D for main plant trials and production monitoring activities.

  • Assist on product testing, data capture, and data analysis

Based on trials conducted, assistant to collect, record, and analyze data from lab-, pilot- and factory-scale trials using digital systems in place (e.g. LIMS, ELN), contributing to the understanding and improvement of new or improved products and processes. 

  • Lead maintenance, repair, and improvement of of relevant R&D lab & pilot plant assets

Ensure that lab and pilot plant equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and documented, following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Maintain required fix asset register. Lead the identification and raising of relevant capex proposals to improve capacity and capability of R&D facilities.

  • Manage inventory for materials necessary for lab & pilot plant operations

Maintain an inventory of materials, equipment parts, and cleaning supplies, ensuring that the lab and pilot plant has the necessary resources to run efficiently. Keep track of requirements and provide input into budget forecasting for lab and pilot plant supplies. 

  • Champion Process Operations Safety and Compliance:

Ensures compliance to safety procedures and requirements to maintain a safe working environment based on local and Unilever policies for lab and pilot plant operations.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Education:

  • A relevant scientific or technical degree (e.g., Bachelor's in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related fields) is often preferred. 

Experience:

  • Experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment is generally required. This can range from 0-2 years
  • English proficiency: Intermediate level

SKILLS  & LEADERSHIP SKILLS

  • Technical Skills: Experience with operating and maintaining pilot plant equipment,
  • Basic Process Knowledge: Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in the relevant industry (e.g., Cosmetic, Personal Care). 
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately follow procedures, record data, and maintain documentation. 
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with team members and stakeholders. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues that arise during pilot plant operations. 
  • Adaptability:  Thriving in a dynamic and changing environment, adjusting to new technologies and process
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Educational Background: An associate's degree or certificate in a relevant field (e.g., chemical technology, process technology) is often required, or equivalent experience.
