Perioperative Care Tech – Inpatient Surgery – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital

Shift/Schedule

  • Full Time - Scheduled for 40 Weekly Hours (8 Hour Shifts)
  • Shift Times - Rotating Days/Evenings (Availability Required for 6:30a-3p, 9a-5:30p, and 11a-7:30p Shift Times)
  • Rotating Weekends

JOB SUMMARY:

Perioperative Care Technicians support the intra-operative team by establishing and maintaining a clean working environment for the staff and our patients. PCT's are responsible for room turnover, assisting with set-up and turnover of anesthesia supplies, and maintaining stock levels within the OR suites. PCT's provide assistance with transferring and positioning patients within the operating rooms. As part of the intra-operative team, frequent errands to the blood bank, pathology, and other areas of the hospital are required to meet care and patient prep requirements. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains clean and orderly work areas throughout the OR to include: Preparation of  OR suites by performing complete room turnover between cases, end of day, and by performing terminal cleans as needed. Performs routine cleaning, sterilization and storing of reusable equipment and supplies. Performs assigned duties according to duty list.
  • Maintains sterile and non-sterile supply stock in OR suites, around scrub sinks, fluid and blanket warmers, and anesthesia work stations.
  • Transports correct patient to correct location per policy as directed. Assist  OR staff in safe patient transfers and positioning intraoperatively. 
  • Monitor case cart areas, sending supplies back to CSS as needed.
  • Transport specimens to appropriate department accompanied by proper paperwork when directed. 
  • Complete errands in a timely manner when directed. Obtain blood products for transfusion, transport patients from inpatient units when assigned, and assist with pre-operative prepping of patients when necessary. 
  • Weekly cleaning of sterilizers per policy. 
  • Knowledge of various aseptic techniques used for routine cleaning and disinfecting of equipment preferred. 

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate or equivalency test.
  • Basic Life Support required.
