What You’ll Do:
• Act as subject safety contact for all study subjects in the Clinic.
• Provide basic and advanced medical care (within scope of practice), both emergent and non-emergent, to all study subjects, as appropriate.
• Independently direct the resuscitation and stabilization of a subject in any life-threatening situation using both accepted medical protocols and any study
specific treatments.
• Monitor and record Adverse Events (AEs). Reviews of all active AEs prior to dose and determines if it is safe for subjects to proceed with study procedures and/or doing consultation with staff paramedics. If subject safety is in question, may confer with staff paramedic, operational management and/or the physician/investigator for additional instruction and/or directive. May review all active AEs for a given study and follow up with study subject(s), as necessary.
• May perform technical procedures including blood collection, vital signs, and
ECGs.
• Assess out of range values for symptomology and may medically intervene should study subject's safety be in question.
Education and Experience:
• High / Secondary school diploma or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
• Technical positions may require a certificate
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to at least 2 years as an Advanced EMT on an ALS unit and/or in a clinical setting). Texas Certified Advanced Paramedic .
• EMT and American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required, but can be obtained on the job.
In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Strong Advanced EMT skills in all areas including airway management, phlebotomy, I.V. establishment, and injections (subcutaneous)
• Solid interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, management and physicians in a professional and credible manner
• Ability to effectively manage multiple complex tasks
• Ability to effectively manage potential emergency medical situations
Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
• Frequently stands, twists waists, squats, and bends neck for 4-6 hours per day.
• Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Ability to make precise coordinated movements, of the fingers to grasp and manipulate objects.
• Frequent mobility required.
• Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
• Moderate lifting (or otherwise movement, carrying, setting, and placement)of 15-30 lbs. with a maximum lift of 35 lbs.
• Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• May interact with others, relating and gathering sensitive information. Interaction includes diverse groups.
• Works with guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions from management. May require periods of intense concentration.
• Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
• Regular and consistent attendance.
• Work is performed in a clinical environment
• Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms
• May require long and varied working hours
