Job Summary
Provide peer mentoring and academic support to students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform peer mentoring and academic advising to program participants.
Meet individually with students weekly.
Maintain current and confidential records and information.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with all University staff.
Prepare written reports related to student mentoring and other related assignments.
Meet regularly with the program’s Supervisor for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
Communicate weekly with students who are absent from mentor meetings,
Maintain current and confidential records and information.
Assist in developing, organizing, and presenting at Proyecto Amigo workshops and events.
Meet regularly with Proyecto Amigo program manager for staff meetings, training, and/or workshops.
Minimum Requirements
Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates.
Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
Preferred Experience
Current TAMIU student with 60 SCH or more at the time of appointment.
Experience working with college/university students in an educational setting.
Ability to identify TAMIU resources and the connected office associated with support initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
Outstanding customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

Other Requirements
Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
Promptly complete all required trainings.
Submit time sheet biweekly.
Subject to funding and/or need.
Pay of Rate: $9.00/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
