Peer Bridger Job Description

Peer Specialists working within the Peer Bridger Program at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) will work closely with high-risk individuals to support their connection and engagement within the community upon their discharge from the hospital. Peer Bridgers serve as mentors, demonstrate personal self-help and wellness skills and provide validation and support to individuals. Using evidence-based peer interventions and working collaboratively with the team, Peer Bridgers are actively involved in promoting recovery, self-determination, and shared decision making.

Competencies: 

  • Maintain Peer Specialist values in all aspects of their work 
  • Understand and approach all individuals in a trauma informed and responsive manner 
  • Be able to build relationships with all members of the team and greater community 
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adaptable to fluid workflow

Requirements: 

  • Hold current/active New York Peer Certification:
  • New York Certified Peer Specialist, Provisional (NYCPS-P) 
  • New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS) 
  • New York Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) 
  • Credentialed Family Peer Advocate (FPA-C)
  • Credentialed Youth Peer Advocate (YPA-C)
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate community resources 
  • Ability to model, facilitate, and convey the message that healing is possible and probable 
  • Exhibit oral, reading, writing, and computer skills with basic knowledge in applications such as Microsoft Office: Teams, Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook  
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Ability to maintain confidential information as related to position, always maintaining transparency with any limits that are identified 
  • Hold a current and unrestricted New York State driver’s license

Pay Range: $21.64 - $23.20

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location
