We're Looking For:
We're seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Payroll Supervisor to lead OPENLANE’s payroll operations across both the United States and Canada. You will be the payroll expert overseeing the administration and system management for the company's payroll program. You'll join the HR team as a trusted advisor and expert on federal, state, provincial, and local payroll compliance, ensuring flawless execution across all business units in both countries.
In this vital role, you'll be instrumental in:
Spearheading all aspects of payroll tax compliance and management for U.S. and Canadian payroll.
Developing and mentoring your department team.
Working with internal departments such as finance, legal and HR.

The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of five (5) years of payroll administration experience with a multi-state/multi-national, in-house system, including at least two (2) years in a people leader role.

A Clear Communicator: You proactively maintain a smooth, professional flow of information across the Company and ensure complex employee relations issues are handled and escalated effectively.
A Payroll System Expert: You're the central point of contact for our HRIS and timekeeping system providers, actively monitoring technology's impact on payroll and identifying opportunities as needed.
You Will:
Execute Flawlessly: Oversee and administer the company's end-to-end payroll program, monitoring processing for all locations in the U.S. and Canada, including accruals (vacation, sick days) timekeeping systems and taxable fringe benefits.
Drive Tax Authority: Function as the payroll tax compliance specialist, managing complex, multi-state/provincial payroll tax functions.
Partner Strategically: Collaborate with the HRIS team on set up, acquisitions, and making critical system changes to tax codes, bank accounts, and earning/deduction data. Also working with legal, tax and finance on audits and new legislation.
Build the Future: Promote, develop, and train all employees within the team, assist in recruiting efforts, and control regular and overtime payroll within established budgets.
Analyze & Optimize: Create valuable metrics for labor analysis and cost comparison and conduct payroll audits as required.
Must Have's:
5+ Years of experience in U.S. and Canada in-house payroll administration.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
2+ Years of management experience.
Non-Negotiable: Demonstrated experience with U.S. multi-state and Canadian provincial tax compliance and complex payroll tax functions.
Leadership Acumen: Proven ability to manage employee relations, conduct performance management, and handle sensitive disciplinary actions consistently.
Workday payroll and tax experience.
Nice to Have's:
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification is highly preferred.
