Payroll Supervisor

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for the planning, daily oversight, and performance of the payroll functional area within the Finance department. This is a working supervisor position that will provide oversight to day-to-day assignments within the respective areas, and will also complete required payroll reporting, communications, and projects. This is a strategic and tactical position of significant influence for maximizing the talent of a diverse and technical workforce. 
 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide leadership and oversight to the payroll team, ensuring resources are effectively allocated and utilized. Serve as a highly proficient backup by performing payroll analyst duties as needed. Responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating federal, state, and local tax withholdings; payroll reporting; W‑2 administration; unemployment insurance; benefits premiums and arrears calculations; FLSA calculations and compliance; and timekeeping approvals and rules enforcement. Ensure full regulatory compliance and the deliver of exemplary customer service.

In cooperation with department’s leadership team, develop department strategies, programs and business plans to include objectives, goals and actions in alignment with organizational strategies. Consult with various members of management, including senior management, and present/communicate recommendations and plans as appropriate.

Design, coordinate, and participate in the activities for assigned areas of responsibility in support of departmental and organizational objectives and in cooperation with other department staff. This includes prioritization, coordination, and monitoring of work with sensitivity to customer needs and effective issues resolution.

Supervise and manage performance of assigned staff. This includes developing clear expectations; coordinating appropriate training; providing accurate, timely, and constructive feedback; coaching and counseling for improved performance; establishing development plans to promote continual growth and learning; providing recognition for high levels of performance; and completing performance appraisals.

Responsible for ERP/HRIS system oversight within payroll, time tracking and absence purview. Ensure payroll team successfully completes system updates and upgrades, pulls timely and accurate reports, and offers user support to workforce.

Consult with department leadership on payroll changes, challenges, and recommendations. Complete special projects as assigned and provide backup to department leadership.

Provide support for effective coordination and integration with other teammates regarding compensation and benefits programs administration.  Programs include, but are not limited to: 

COMP: Wage and salary programs (base pay, merits, GWIs), short and long-term incentives, executive compensation, relocations, inducements, stipends, special pays, awards, etc. BENEFITS: Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, FMLA, VEBA (HRA), 401(k), 457, PERS (pension), tuition reimbursement, etc.

Prepare, review, revise, and update assigned policies and procedures to ensure continual compliance with regulatory requirements and support of current business needs. Ensure desktop procedures are completed and current for all assigned areas. Coordinate and oversee respective payroll training courses. Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and trends in the payroll sector via memberships, readings, research, networking, and seminar/conference attendance.

Must participate on the Emergency Response Team (ERO) when designated.

Must support the biennial refueling outage.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or Social Science from an accredited college or university and six years of professional level HR, Finance or Payroll experience;

OR a high school diploma or GED and ten years of professional level HR, Finance or Payroll experience. 

Functional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: payroll, accounting, and finance.

Pay Range

$141,070.00 - $211,604.00 Annual

Midpoint:

$176,337.00

Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint of the range, based on applicable experience and qualifications, market rate, internal equity, and budgetary allowances.

Offers will be negotiated based on each candidate's qualifications.

Incentive Compensation

This role may be eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan. Incentives are earned based on employee performance against defined metrics and company goals.
