Payroll Specialist

Georgia - Oakwood Corporate Office Full time

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible for providing administrative process guidance and technical assistance for payroll system to plant Payroll Clerks, making adjustments, entries and/or corrections to timekeeping system, validating/reconciling payroll related data (i.e. wage payment, voluntary benefit deductions etc.) and training on new and improved payroll administrative processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Under minimal supervision, audit/review nightly reports for input errors, research, manually correct and submit or inform responsible payroll clerk of the error to correct timecard edit records; troubleshoot input errors
  • Assist Payroll Clerks with payroll system related administrative and technical processes (i.e. creating and maintaining hourly and salaried work schedules, providing individual training, etc.)
  • Manage user licenses; allocate and remove manager and employee licenses as needed
  • Validate/ reconcile payroll related data (I.e. wage payments, payroll taxes, accurate funding, etc.)
  • Reconcile all benefit deductions and/or contributions (i.e., HSA, 401K, Purchase Power, voluntary benefits, etc.) back to the general ledger, provide Treasurer with the amount to be funded; in the event of discrepancy or error, notify Benefits and Payroll with corrections for resolution
  • Resolve payroll related Helpdesk tickets (i.e. password reset, timekeeping corrections, etc.)
  • Create, revise and maintain training material for timekeeping system (i.e. query improvements, temporary transfers, attendance edits, etc); provide materials and training to personnel
  • Serve as back-up to Payroll Systems Specialist during absence or work overflow
  • Other duties as assigned by management

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Associates’ degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or other related field
    • A combination of education and applicable experience may be substituted for degree

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum five (5) years applicable payroll processing experience
  • Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Must have exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to keep sensitive information confidential and appropriately handle situations and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment using excellent organizational skills and precise attention to detail
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency

PHYISICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moderate use of hands/fingers to operate computer, keyboard and mouse; may sit for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs
