The Role

Paying our people accurately, compliantly, and on time is a critical part of the employee experience—especially in a fast-moving, newly stood-up organization. As the Payroll Specialist – APAC, you’ll play a hands-on, individual contributor role in building and operating payroll processes across multiple countries as part of a global HR Shared Services model.

This is a builder role for someone who takes personal accountability, is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, and thrives in ambiguity. You will not inherit fully mature processes—you will help stabilize, improve, and modernize them. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys solving problems, improving how work gets done, and using technology (including emerging AI capabilities) to make payroll more accurate, efficient, and scalable.

This position reports to the Head of Global Payroll and supports payroll for China, Australia, and Japan and Hong Kong (EOR), with the opportunity to expand scope over time.

The Team

The Payroll team sits within HR Shared Services, focused on delivering consistent, scalable, and compliant payroll services globally. We partner closely with Finance, Tax, People Partners, HR Technology, and outsourced payroll providers across APAC, North America, and EMEA. As a Shared Services team, we balance operational rigor with continuous improvement, always looking for smarter, more efficient ways to deliver payroll.

What’s in It for You

• Opportunity to help build and evolve payroll operations within a new Shared Services model
• Hands-on ownership of multi-country APAC payrolls in an outsourced and EOR environment
• Exposure to payroll process optimization, automation, and technology-enabled delivery
• Ability to operate as a trusted partner to People, Finance, Tax, and HR Technology teams
• Room to expand scope and impact as the SpinCo grows
• A pragmatic, collaborative team that values accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities and Impact

• Own end-to-end payroll oversight for assigned APAC countries, ensuring accurate and timely processing by outsourced payroll providers
• Act as the country payroll subject matter expert, understanding local statutory, tax, and compliance requirements
• Execute detailed payroll reconciliations, validating current results against prior periods and source data
• Manage payroll tax reporting, filings, and statutory payments in accordance with local regulations
• Maintain and manage payroll calendars, ensuring adherence across vendors and internal stakeholders
• Ensure accurate reporting and taxation of equity income, cash, and non-cash fringe benefits
• Review, investigate, and resolve employee pay-related inquiries with clear follow-through
• Support internal and external audits through strong controls, documentation, and data accuracy
• Identify payroll errors, inefficiencies, or risks and take ownership of driving them to resolution
• Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process standardization, documentation, and control enhancement
• Partner with HR Technology and Payroll vendors to support process optimization, automation, and system enhancements
• Explore and apply emerging capabilities, including AI-enabled payroll insights, data validation, and exception management, where appropriate
• Build repeatable, scalable payroll processes that support future country or volume expansion
• Perform additional duties as needed as the SpinCo and Shared Services model mature

What We’re Looking For

• Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field
• 5+ years of payroll experience in a multinational or shared services environment
• Proven individual contributor who operates independently and owns work end-to-end
• Comfortable working in ambiguity and building structure where it does not yet exist
• Strong accountability mindset—issues are followed through, not handed off
• Hands-on, detail-oriented, and willing to do the work, not just oversee it
• Continuous improvement mindset with interest in improving processes and controls
• Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills
• Solid understanding of payroll tax compliance and statutory requirements
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis
• Comfortable learning and leveraging payroll technology, systems, and data tools
• Clear, practical communicator able to work cross-functionally in a Shared Services model
• Willing to challenge existing ways of working and propose better solutions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Workday, CloudPay, or similar global payroll platforms
• Experience supporting APAC payrolls and Employer of Record (EOR) models
• Exposure to payroll process automation, reporting, or AI-enabled tools
• Strong judgment, prioritization, and execution skills
• High integrity, discretion, and professionalism
• Curious, adaptable, and energized by change
