As our Payroll Specialist, you will act as the official liaison to County payroll and benefits. You will perform all payroll coordination and functions within the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and process all employee reimbursements, employee time donations, work schedule changes, and related payroll forms. You will also oversee the probation process, mid-year merit increases, and provide backup assistance in all full-cycle recruitment and onboarding tasks.

We Require
Associate's degree and one year of human resources experience OR
High school diploma/GED and three years of human resources experience
We Also Value
Experience processing payroll
Experience using Workday
Experience within a government or public sector environment
Proficiency with Word and Excel
Professional HR Certification
Job Contributions
Coordinates and completes payroll for approximately 1,000 employees by utilizing County Workday personnel software program to input, monitor, and approve payroll
Accurately prepares payroll adjustments and corrections into the payroll system while adhering to strict timelines
Researches and resolves routine and complex payroll discrepancies, problems, and questions from supervisors or employees
Processes employee reimbursements, including travel advancements and mileage reimbursements
Researches and produces documentation of all mileage for each entry on employee mileage reimbursement requests
Processes employee time donations, work schedule changes, and related payroll forms
Oversees the probation process, including updating the spreadsheet, communicating with the supervisors, and preparing paperwork
Oversees the mid-year Pay-for-Performance increases, when applicable
Manages Multilingual Testing/Pay, Employment Verifications, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness requests
Interacts with County payroll and vendors as required to facilitate payroll process
Provides interpretation of payroll-related laws, rules, policies, and procedures
Creates and/or generates a variety of reports and queries from Workday and systems to provide information and verification of payroll actions
Retrieves and exports data from sources through Excel to Workday system, and query relational databases Workday
Maintains payroll files and performs records retention activities according to State, County, and Department guidelines
Maintains standard operating procedures, updating payroll procedures/processes as required
Maintains automated payroll files in organized and accurate manner
Provides backup for Notary Public applications and renewals
Provides backup support to Human Resources staff as needed
Provides streamlining and process improvement suggestions
Maintains and creates various human resources related tracking logs, reports, and queries from internal systems
Responds to supervisor and employee inquiries regarding HR related policies and procedures, via email, telephone, and in personal responses
Prepares routine, sensitive correspondence, and documents related to areas of responsibility
Working Conditions:
Office environment includes bright lighting and working in close proximity to others while sitting for prolonged periods, and repeating motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
Position requires accuracy, concentration, vigilance, a high volume of work, handling complicated tasks, stressful situations, teamwork, time pressures, and unscheduled or frequently changing tasks
Valid Arizona Driver’s License is required upon hire
