The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing for employees in India, ensuring accuracy, compliance with local laws, and timely salary disbursement. This role requires strong expertise in Indian statutory requirements, payroll systems, and cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, and external vendors.
What you'll do:
- Responsible for timely and accurate disbursement of salaries and compensation.
- Ensure compliance with central and state laws, including Provident Fund (EPF), Employee State Insurance, Tax Deducted at Source (TDS), Professional Tax (PT), and other statutory filings.
- Generate internal and statutory payroll reports, manage annual filings, and act as the primary contact for internal and external audits.
- Direct and mentor junior payroll staff, develop operational procedures, and implement payroll policies in collaboration with HR and Finance.
- Ensure seamless integration with HRIS platforms like Workday, and leverage payroll software for automation and compliance.
- Manage payroll system implementations, upgrades and enhancements.
- Manage relationships with third-party payroll vendors, ensuring service level adherence and process efficiency.
- Address payroll-related queries, resolve discrepancies, and provide exceptional service to employees.
- Stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations, proactively flag legal changes, and implement best practices for operational efficiency.
What you'll bring:
- 5+ years of experience in payroll, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Strong understanding of India payroll best practices, statutory compliance, and labor/tax laws.
- Proficiency in payroll and HRIS software (e.g., Workday, Deel), and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality.
