Essential Functions

  • Ensure patient, self, and coworker safety by following all transport, infection prevention, and universal precaution protocols.
  • Receive/confirm Ticket to Ride documentation before each transport and obtain required signatures.
  • Prepare patients for transport and maintain communication with dispatch, nursing, and telemetry as appropriate.
  • Complete assigned transports within established time standards; report delays or cancellations promptly.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics, gait belts, and lifting assistance to ensure patient safety and prevent injury.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment after each use; identify and remove unsafe equipment from circulation.
  • Offer comfort measures using age‑appropriate communication (pediatric through geriatric), such as blankets or pillows.
  • Provide directions or escort guests as needed, demonstrating excellent customer service and professionalism.
  • Maintain continuous supervision of patients during transport and ensure proper hand‑off to receiving staff.
  • Document all required information accurately, including unit sign‑in/out, blood moves, and ED-to-radiology transports.
  • Report hazards, incidents, or changes in patient condition to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy and respect patients’ right to privacy.

Education, Experience, Licensure & Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience working with various age groups preferred.
  • CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Basic math, customer service, and strong communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, good judgment, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to walk continuously throughout the shift and perform frequent pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs independently; lifts over 35 lbs require equipment and assistance per policy.
  • Ability to perform very heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50+ lbs frequently).
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts based on staffing needs.
  • Routine exposure to infectious patients/specimens and other hospital hazards.
  • Ability to assist with patient evacuation during fire or disaster situations.

Shift Details

Second Shift — three 12‑hour shifts per week
Hours: 1:00 PM – 1:00 AM
Every other weekend required
