A Brief Overview
The Patient Transportation Specialist provides support and dispatch for the non-emergency ground and air transportation of patients in a safe, secure and professional manner. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Prioritizes transportation requests according to the patient’s acuity to ensure that emergent transportation requests receive priority.
  • Documents any quality and service incidents concerning any problems that may occur in the course of a shift.
  • Maintains a basic understanding of insurance and issuing payment authorizations.
  • Performs other functions as needed.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Emerg Medical Tech (EMT)

Work Experience Requirements
  • Customer service, collections or call center
  • 1-3 years Patient transport

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all level of associates, management, physicians, patients and their families.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and initiative.
  • Basic knowledge of PC and radio communications hardware and dispatching software.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands
  • The ability to sit for long periods in a call center environment.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
