Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Patient Safety Attendant.

As a Patient Safety Attendant at MercyOne, you will support the provision of a safe environment for patients by providing continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.  First line of action is to verbally redirect the patient from engaging in at risk behaviors and notifies professional staff of the patient's needs and/or alerts them in case of an emergency. Documents on observation flow sheet and assist licensed nursing staff with cares as delegated and identified on the Safety Attendant information sheet.

Schedule:

  • 12-hours Days 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; rotating weekends and holidays

General Requirements:

  • Always maintains visual observation. 
  • Verbally redirects patient in person or over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room.
  • Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate care to patient population based on the patients individualized treatment plan as delegated by the RN.
  • Collecting verbal report, updated/accurate information form and observation record from licensed nurse before assuming observation care of the patient. 
  • Ensures Safety Attendant Information Sheet is completed and appropriate for each assignment. 
  • Documents every 15-30 minutes, as appropriate, on Observation Flow Sheet.
  • Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment. 
  • Informs nurse prior to leaving monitoring station for any reason so that relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.

Education:

  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Previous work in a hospital or a college student in medical discipline helpful
  • Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
