Job Summary: This position serves as a Patient Relations Assistant, also known as Ambassador for the Amarillo Veterans Affairs Health Care System (AVAHCS) in Lubbock, Texas. The position is aligned under the Experience Service. The position serves as the liaison between the patients and the staff of the Health Care System, as a patient experience greeter & tour guide, as well as a customer service assistant & concierge expert.

Major Duties:

  • The incumbent will interpret the Health Care System's mission, policies, procedures, and available services to Veterans and family members. Incumbent will serve as a greeter, working with volunteer greeters, to provide a consistent, exceptional patient experience that builds the trust and confidence of Veterans, their families, visitors and other stakeholders. He/she provides a personal and positive first impression; assists Veterans and their family members navigate the campus, the Health Care System services, and provides information to all stakeholders upon request; fosters a general culture of care; and personally, assists customers throughout the Health Care System. The incumbent makes a direct connection with Veterans, which provides an opportunity to engage and get their feedback. Due to the nature of the position, the incumbent may receive or hear complaints from patients, family members or other stakeholders during their duties, as such the incumbent must work with or refer Veterans to the Patient Advocate office to resolve or provide a warm hand-off to the appropriate party. Additionally, through daily activities working with Veterans, the incumbent may identify existing or potential problems and barriers to care and recommend solutions or alternatives to existing procedures that contribute to those problems or barriers. The incumbent will be responsible for obtaining and retaining access to drive government vehicles and the Veteran shuttle van. He/she will also be responsible for and help ensure the Patient Relations Assistants team is current with all driving GOV requirements and shuttle van requirements. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/07/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 4 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 3. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The regular and recurring work of the position involves extensive walking, standing and bending, and carrying of items such as walkers, wheelchairs and any other Veteran mobility accessories. to the Health Care System. The position requires regular pushing of patient and visitor wheelchairs. Occasional use of automobile may be required as well. Occasional use of Veteran shuttle may be needed, all shuttle drivers must pass a physical and have a clean driving record.
