The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time).

Position Overview

SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)

Under the Direction of Environmental Services Director and Escort Manager, works in compliance with department, facility, and regulatory agency safety policies and procedures to ensure efficient and safe use of Escort equipment and safe patient handling by performing equipment and safety inspections. Recognizes and appropriately responds to situations or issues requiring communication or interaction with other departments or patients. Assures Escort assignments are completed timely and quality measures are in place.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: One year experience in Escort preferred.

Other Credentials: AHA Heartsaver AED

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to speak, read, and write English. Excellent service skills and customer-focused. Basic patient care skills.

Special Training: Basic knowledge of hazardous chemicals. Aware of safety data sheet and reporting.

Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Possesses critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action and to interact positively with patients and hospital staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Handles chemicals and solutions to clean Escort stretchers and wheelchairs per departmental and material safety data sheet standards error free and efficiently. Insures chemicals are properly labeled at all times and utilized properly.
  • Directs daily work of other patient transporters and follows up on complaints and reports inadequate performance to Supervisor. Trains new and existing employees; updates personnel files.
  • Identifies and resolves interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with members of the organization. Displays patience and tact when dealing with other hospital staff. Utilizes appropriate department chain of command in resolving complaints, grievances, or problems accurately.
  • Presents department in a positive manner to visitors, patients, and other hospital personnel. Communicates effectively with nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians, or reception and dispatch.
  • Assists with evaluating work requirements and assignments; ensures efficient use of employees and distribution of work load.
  • Utilizes departmental scripting when identifying self upon entry of patient room and asks if there is any additional customer service needing to be performed before leaving area.
  • Assures safe function of all equipment and adheres to safety regulations as outlined in departmental policies, facility, and DNV guidelines. Cleans and returns Escort equipment to proper location in a timely manner. Immediately reports equipment needing repairs. Maintains equipment and supplies needed to perform duties.
  • Reviews Teletracking system and helps coordinate Escort flow to safely move patients in a timeframe that meets organization and department standards. Changes priorities of Teletracking moves as needed for smooth patient flow.
  • Ensures safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to destination; brings proper requested equipment. Ensures patient comfort by being attentive; offers blankets, checks modesty and only engages in appropriate conversation involving patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
