Mid Shift (United States of America)Summary
Performs basic patient care. Observes and reports abnormal occurrences or changes in patient condition. Cleans, stocks and maintains supplies for the patient unit. Performs other duties as assigned.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Assist in the admission of patients to the unit including orientation to the unit, hospital routine and patient care equipment
Respond to needs of patients with direct assistance when able or by reporting patient needs to the appropriate staff
Assist with implementation of nursing plan of care by carrying out delegated patient care tasks
Assist in maintaining patient safety including proper use of equipment and supplies
Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items for patient care use
Maintain a well-stocked, clean patient environment
Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
Participates in educational and Performance Improvement activities
Performs waived testing per unit competency
Obtain EKG readings and monitor vital signs
Perform phlebotomy procedures
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Obtain national certification as a Patient Care Technician through American Medical Technologists required

Verbal and written skills
Ability to read English
Ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team
Flexible in approach to work tasks and schedules
Ability to grasp new skills and techniques
Basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served
Basic computer skills
Ability to work variable shifts
Ability to turn and lift patients
Much standing, walking, bending and lifting
Visual and auditory acuity for observing patients
Position involves exposure to blood and body secretions and may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
